EUGENE L. NAGBE SHOOTS CHARLES BRUMSKINE in the head.

.

Liberian politics will never cease to amaze me, if you are following the Liberian election closely you will realize that Charles Brumskine had an interview with the BBC in which he label several allegations against president Ellen Johnson Sirlef. In response to those allocations, the information minister of the Ellen lead government has come out strongly in his boss's defense. Below is the full statement from the minister.

“The Government of Liberia takes strong exception to comments made by the Standard Bearer of the Liberty Party, Cllr. Charles Brumskine to the effect that President Sirleaf interfered with and ensured the rigging of the 2017 General and Presidential Elections. The Government also rejects claims by Cllr. Brumskine that President Sirleaf protested the outcome of the 1985 Elections by bringing war upon Liberia and its people.

Cllr. Brumskine needs to be reminded or made aware that making baseless and reckless accusations about a fair and transparent process that was witnessed by several party agents, local and international actors and acclaimed to be credible is a demonstration of desperation and dishonesty which this country does not deserve.

The Government believes that this conduct by Cllr. Brumskine is simply the rants of a sore and selfish  loser who is so blinded by ego and arrogance that even after 12 years of rejection by the voters, he is unable to accept that he is not the presidential choice of the Liberian people.
Cllr. Brumskine whose position as a 3rd-placer has never changed over the three recent electoral cycles, has always complained about the outcome of the election process since 2005.

The Government points out that it is important for Cllr. Brumskine to understand that his rejection at the polls by the Liberian people represents their will which he must accept instead of attempting to find a scapegoat by his unfounded and untrue statements about the President with regards to the 2017 elections and the claims about bringing war after an electoral defeat in 1985. For the record, the President did win the senatorial elections in 1985 but opted not to accept a seat under a dictatorial regime.

This behavior clearly shows the lack of leadership and respect for the constitutional and democratic will of the Liberian people and of people they placed in authority through their votes. The comments also do not represent the standing of a political party leader who aspires to the highest office of the land.

On the issue of bringing war due to the circumstances surrounding the 1985 General and Presidential Elections, it is a shameful irony that Cllr. Brumskine who served as the so-called legal advisor to the NPFL machine and subsequently a high-profile position in the Government of former President Taylor who led the war effort and witnessed all of the evil committed by that regime to which he was a party, would make war claims against President Sirleaf.

The war allegation truly reflects upon Cllr. Brumskine himself the more. For Cllr. Brumskine to resort to misinformation in the mass media and distortion of the facts of history whilst his frivolous contention is being addressed by our country’s legal system also shows a lack of respect and confidence in the judicial process. We urge him to keep his focus on the legal option that he is pursing and refrain from baseless attacks aimed at the President and the Government of Liberia.

The government reiterates that it remains committed to a free, fair and democratic transition and will not pursue any avenue which seeks to undermine the free will and choice of the Liberian people. The government urges all to remain calm as the legal process takes its due course and further urges political leaders to refrain for inciting and baseless comments which seek to subvert the peace and security of the nation.”
